With the advancement of electricity market reform and the proportion increase of renewable energy, how to evaluate and ensure the adequacy of system power generation capacity has become an important issue to ensure reliable power supply. This paper proposes an evaluation method to quantitatively calculate the sufficient capacity of each generation unit and the power generation capacity adequacy of the system, so as to reflect the reliability value of generation unit and the level of power generation capacity adequacy of the system. Based on the evaluation method of power generation capacity adequacy and the principle of marginal cost pricing, a guarantee mechanism for power generation capacity adequacy is designed. The capacity price is determined according to the investment cost of the marginal generator operating during the peak load period of the year, and the compensation capacity is determined by fully considering the actual power generation capacity of the generator and the actual demand of the system. All these measures help power generation enterprises recover fixed costs within the planned payback period and ensure the power generation capacity adequacy of the system. Example simulations verify the effectiveness and adaptability of the designed mechanism.
